Well the Brewers did grab third spot, courtesy of a hard-fought losing bonus point with a patched up side in last Friday's final game at Pontypool Utd.
They contributed to their narrow defeat with a few one-on-one missed tackles, and that recent worry of letting the high kick bounce, andthe hosts' speedy wings took advantage.
The pack battled well in scrum and loose, but the slips saw Rhymney trail 20-13 at the break, when a harsh yellow card for an alleged high tackle on a short player ducking didn't help.
The hosts stretched their lead and Rhymney used Anthony Hares as a back row sub only for him to be rapidly hospitalised. Coach Pinch was another emergency replacement, while Gavin Coleman also second half action and the Brewers finished strongly.
Their tries were by centre Simon Parry, eager backrower Jon White and Pinch, while flanker Josh Perry showed another set of skills with two conversions and two penalties.
Rhymney were closing the gap, but when Greg Plant couldn't quite make it for another score at the death, Matthew Jones' men had to settle for a bonus point in defeat at the season's final whistle.
